  • Regrets

I was thinking last night about regrets.  There are a lot of stupid things that I've done as well as sinful and hurtful things.  While those are one kind of regret, there's also the other kind.  The kind where you've missed out on an experience.  It may have been not spending a semester abroad or backpacking through Europe before you had to get a real job.  Whatever.

I realized last night that my one real regret of that kind was that I never went to Cuba before marrying Shaun.  The Bahamas still has open trade, etc with Cuba and it is no problem (and pretty cheap) to go there.  Unfortunately, now that I'm married to a U.S. citizen and trying to get citizenship, my chances of going to Cuba are gone.  Unless Bush (or McCain, Clinton or Obama -whoever wins) decides we can go.

Anyone else have that kind of regret?

  • Memorable Weekend

This past week/weekend was so jammed packed with adventure it is hard to know where to start.  Perhaps I'll start with the water heating leaking the morning I was getting ready to leave for job testing at a bank.  I was frantic - water heaters are pricey and ours isn't even five years old.  I did past the test and Shaun and I spent a while on the phone with various plumbers.  Thankfully Shaun called the manufacturer and found out that ours was still under warranty.  Long story short, we only  had to pay for installation and I got the job.  So, we have a heater that makes our water hot without leaking on the carpet and I begin job training mid-April in downtown Philly.

Kim got here hours before the plumber and we had a wonderful time hanging out with her.  I miss not having her across the street...  Once the plumber was done we picked up pizza, stuff to make nachos and a movie.  Saturday we got a very late start (due to more homeowner fun involving a plumber's snake) and just made it to the last tour of an Amish homestead.  No one lives there anymore but it was very informative.  It is hard to believe that when you leave our road and make a right you hit a not so nice area, then shopping shopping more shopping and Philly.  Head left and within 30 minutes you are in Amish country.  So, we explored Bird-in-Hand, ate at Good 'n Plenty and managed to find some time for the outlet mall.  =)

Since we are still looking for a church to call our own, we visited a community church that is really a Mennonite church in disguise.  Their women's bible study is essentially a quilting group, but the people were sweet, the sermon was good, and the music was a wonderful combination of new choruses and old hymns - we even used the hymnal once.  From there we made lunch at home then went to Longwood Gardens.  Should you ever be near Kennett Square (mushroom capital of the US) you should make the effort to go to the Gardens.  Beautiful!  We made it for the last day of their orchis exhibit but there is so much more.  They have fountains, a castle, the largest conservatory I've ever seen and walking trails.  Next time we get married that's where we are going.

On the way down there we saw the strangest thing.  First we passed beautiful rolling hills with horse jumps and noticed a lot of cars.  We thought there may be a fox hunt (they still do that out here).  Sure enough out comes a man in his daper riding outfit - red coat and all... chasing a horse.  The horse he was chasing happened to be in the road and a little confused about where it should be going.

  • Here we are

We are finally here.  I say finally because it seems like this move has taken forever although everything happened so quickly.

We closed on Monday, the movers arrived on Tuesday (the same day Lucy escaped through the front door screaming "FREEDOM - see you later suckers!!!" and Shaun had his first day at work.)  Lucy's independence was short lived and she will never again be trusted near open doors.  However, she loves that all of the windows are low enough for her to be the neighborhood watchdog and keep tabs on what the neighbors are doing, which child/dog is getting walked when, etc.

Shaun and I have enjoyed being close to his cousin, Shaun especially because they can have manly conversations.  It has also been fun spending money like there's no tomorrow.  That however has ended quickly.  We now have a new bedroom set and some other random pieces and we go back to frugality.

We went to a church yesterday that was recommended by the previous owners.  I enjoyed the sermon and the diversity of the congregation.  There was a lot of clapping after songs and amening.  It actually reminded me a lot of Cedarville's SGA chapels.  The layout of the auditorium was similar and they dimmed the lights to set the mood.  There are a few other churches that are considerably closer that we would like to try before commiting anywhere.  I am anxious to get settled in a church because I know that is where we're going to meet a lot of friends and be able to get involved.

I have been spending my days unpacking, which I should be getting back to.  Once our home has reached some semblence of normal (i.e. you can see past the boxes) I will take some pictures of our new home.

  • I go where the puppy is

The last week has been a bit hectic.  Starting last Wednesday the movers came to pack up our house.  Thursday night I watched them drive away (in a full semi) with all of our worldly possessions.  I am learning that they're not that important.

I spent Wednesday-Sunday and my sister-in-law's and since then have been living with Shaun's mom and gramma.  Thank goodness for family who is willing to put up with me and a puppy!  Shaun has been at sales training this whole time.  I often get to see him in the evenings, but its not the same.  Sunday we will go down to PA to stay with his cousin for two nights while we close on our townhouse and wait for the movers to unpack our bed.

It has been such a stressful time (I hate change!) but also a good chance to spend time with family before we move far away.  I finished up at work last week - which was harder than usual.  Leaving a five year old is not the same as working in the cafeteria, or coffee shop, or office.

I have also had to learn to drive a manual transmission.  I hate it, absolutely hate it.  But, I have managed to learn and now only stall when I am reversing.  Hopefully I'll get better at that.  =)

We are so looking forward to moving in on Tuesday.  Having a home.  Having our stuff in order.  Being able to grocery shop and put things away.  Having a washer and dryer.  Having our little family all under the same roof.

  • Guilt

Yup folks, I feel guilt.  That's what happens when I don't post for months and no matter what happens I still feel like I have to update on the months that have gone by so I don't post again.  Gosh - its a horrible cycle!

So, to make life easier on me and relieve a little bit of guilt, here's a list:

    • we're moving to PA (it was on our list of short terms goals)
    • Shaun got a new job (praise the Lord!)
    • I need to look for a new job
    • we've been watching a lot of really great movies lately
    • one of them was The Confederate States of America imagining the world if the south had won the was - very good
    • another was The Happiest Millionaire a very old Disney favorite that Merinda and I used to sing along with
    • Shaun away at training for three weeks, he gets out three days before we move, I'm stressed
    • Lucy was spayed, she doing very well.  I love her.

God's really been blessing through this whole process, its amazing that when He wants you somewhere He will make it happen.  I'm excited to see what's going to happen in PA.

That's my story.  Some guilt is relieved.
